Many Programs Planned To Mark July 4th Holiday in This Area

July 4 celebrations in Holbrook Joseph City Show Low Heber and Winslow feature a mix of flag ceremonies barbecues parades rodeos and fireworks. Holbrook offers a noon barbecue and a dusk fireworks show while Joseph City hosts a morning program at the LDS church. Show Low hosts its 34th annual LDS rodeo with team events barrell racing and bull riding plus a parade and barbecue. Heber counts on pancake breakfast power saw contest a 6 pm dinner and an 8 pm dance at the Cultural Hall with a 1 pm rodeo on July 4. Winslow invites residents to a public Fourth of July program at the high school auditorium sponsored by the Department of Public Safety with the school district city and local supporters.

Navajo County planners meet to discuss zoning and Summer Pines park

The Navajo County Planning Commission holds a 7:30 p.m. meeting at the Governmental Center to consider an amendment to Article 14, Section 1401 of the county zoning ordinance enabling special use permits and potential cession of Summer Pines Commercial Park southwest of Show Low.

No Shutdowns Planned Here By Arizona Association

Arizona Businessmen's Association Northern Arizona representative Allen Hensley says no ABA member service stations will shut down at the end of June or in the foreseeable future. Arizona Department of Transportation awarded multiple highway contracts in Navajo County at a Phoenix meeting. Corn Construction Co. of Grand Junction, Colo. won $4.3 million to widen and surface 9.5 miles of I 40 east of Winslow. Tanner Companies of Phoenix earned $1.1 million to build a bridge and pave 1 mile of SR 277 Heber Snowflake Highway. Nesbitt Contracting Co. of Mesa won under $1 million to surface 20 miles of Heber Holbrook Highway. D C Speer Construction Co. of Phoenix won $? to place asphalt concrete on 10 miles of U S 160 Tuba City Four Corners Highway.

All Indian Pre-Pow Wow Rodeo Weekend In Holbrook

Holbrook hosts an all Indian Pre-Pow Wow rodeo at the county felt grovers with no action Friday and Saturday evenings. Admission is 2.50 for adults and 1.50 for children. Fire department barbecues Fourth of July meals start at noon at the fire station south of the tracks. tickets 4.00 for adults and 2.50 for children under 12. Fireworks display near the Navajo County Governmental Center at dusk with free admission. NACOG regional council meeting in Show Low today at 10 a.m. Maxwell House. Holbrook City Forms Campaign for Garbage Can Compliance

City officials in Holbrook launch a Sunday campaign to enforce can size and lid standards, tagging non standard cans in July and issuing citations with fines if needed. Sanitation chief cites trash blowing and alley mess while animal control tightens roaming dog enforcement and residents are urged to arrange unscheduled pickups by calling City Hall.

All news and advertising copy must be turned in by 10 a.m. Monday July 1. Subscribers will receive deliveries on July 5 so staff can celebrate with families.
