Judge Robert McGhee of Gila County ruled the Snowflake budget override election results stand. Plaintiffs argued irregular ballots and language layout invalidated the outcome, but county officials contended the errors were minor and did not affect the result.
Holbrook City Manager Mike Fleetwood reports ongoing projects moving as fast as procedures allow. Water lines to the new tank site are complete and construction should start within two weeks. tank completion under a 250 day contract may push to November. A pool site is being checked with Arizona Outdoor Recreation Commission, aiming for completion by next June. East Florida Street annexation to aid cross county access, airport improvements funded with about 600k from FAA, and cross-runway upgrades funded under the five year plan.

Holbrook merchants host Indian Appreciation Day this Saturday with free hot dogs and Pepsi from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the old courthouse lawn. The event honors Navajo Hopi and Apache residents and includes sidewalk sales and special weekend offers for shoppers.

Open gymkhana June 25 by Little Colorado River Horseman’s Association with free admission.
Letife Koury of Holbrook won a seat on the Holbrook school board with 115 votes in the recent election held at the school gym. The 63 year Holbrook resident, born in Charlotte, North Carolina, taught in Holbrook for 46 years and sought greater adult involvement in school activities. Other candidates and votes were Velma Perkins 76, Gerald Hancock 65, Jim Tanner 33, Willard Rose 18, and Jack Dunigan 7. 316 voted, two ballots spoiled. results certified after canvass by Navajo County school superintendent and Board of Supervisors.
George Simpson, chief of the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department, says the annual fireworks show is being organized. The department hosts a barbecue at the firehouse across the river from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on July 4, with fireworks starting at dusk.
Ray Olsen of Olsen Development says Great Western Bank approved loans for a Hobo Joe's restaurant and adjacent motel in Holbrook. Construction is planned to begin in two to three weeks with final plans nearly set. The project aims to finish the restaurant in four months after start and a bit longer for the motel. Final SBA approval is expected shortly. The site sits on the mesa across from the Holbrook airport.
A public hearing on proposed changes to two Interstate 40 interchanges in Holbrook is set for Monday June 27 at 7 30 p m at Holbrook city hall. ADOT will present revised design plans for the Holbrook and East Holbrook interchanges and discuss right of way and relocation assistance. Written comments are due by July 7.
