Havana June 5 The second stage in exposing the wreck of the Maine ended as caisson repairs finished by driving the last interlocking piles. Pumping out water from the cofferdam began, lowering two feet, with no signs of instability in retaining walls. Water level will drop about five feet to expose the afterdeck, enabling tests before full clearance. The process may take weeks, and the dam’s ability to resist external pressure is promising.
