Local Red Cross chapter schedules regular meeting for Tuesday evening June 6 at eight in the Court House. Holbrook residents spot a familiar face, Mr. Wm. G. McAdoo, seen touring the Petrified Forest and local oil fields before departing toward the Coast.
In Holbrook the Gentry Bros circus stirred lively feelings with Fatima riding in the parade. A resourceful wife disciplined her husband teased by Fatima while the crowd laughed. The writer notes many blushes and comic mischief inside the tent.
A series of 1922 political announcements list candidates for Navajo County offices. D W Easley seeks Sheriff in the Democratic primary on September 16. Thos R Greer runs for Superior Court Judge in the Democratic primary September 1. W G Kelly and L F McClanahan announce for Sheriff and Constable respectively. Lucretia W Flanigan and Hattie H Penrod enter races for County Recorder and County School Superintendent in Navajo County. Mrs James Donohoe and Mrs Lucretia Flanigan also noted for recorder and related posts.
Mrs Kohlour of Los Angeles, daughter of Mr. Chas Cook, arrived this morning with her young son. The note adds a prophecy that Mr. Cook will be busy. Mrs. Cook plans to return around the first of next week.
A young tourist working on a tire at the Navajo Garage caused the tire to explode and collapse. He suffered a severe forearm cut and eye irritation from dust but was treated by Dr. Bazell and no serious injuries are feared.
Friday morning a cheerful party set out for a mountain fishing excursion to the Black River and Little Colorado, beneath Old Baldy. Participants include Mr. and Mrs. Perry Carter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Fay, Joe Woods Jr, Joe Woods Sr, Elwood Crouse, and Mr. Bostwick of Winslow.
Dr and Mrs M M Ellison and Mr Ed Errett of Gallup with Dr and Mrs Switzer drove to the Grand Canyon Sunday. Mr Errett and Dr Switzer walked to the river and back Monday stopping at Indian Gardens. On the return he asked for lemon aid at the miner's cabin and faced a terse remark about ice.
Mrs James Scorse returned early this week from a trip to Williams and Flagstaff and expressed warm appreciation for the memorial services held in Flagstaff. She visited friends in both places and enjoyed a most pleasant trip.
The Beehive Girls from Holbrook joined the Snowflake Swarms for a May Festival on May 31. Twenty girls and six chaperones attended tours, luncheon, dinner, and a dance. They were conveyed by Mrs Jennings and Mrs Chamberlin with Miss Jennie Newman guiding rides home as some car lights failed. The group awaits next year’s swarm.
W. G. Kelly, deputy sheriff of Winslow Arizona, has announced his candidacy on the Democratic ticket for sheriff of Navajo County. The News applauds his record and believes he would serve the office with credit, citing impartiality, geniality, and tireless performance.
A Holbrook note argues for extensive road construction in Navajo County. A north of town project to Lupton may cost about 40000 dollars, while the Petrified Forest Road to St Johns awaits Federal action. The author envisions a connected county with well graded bed roads linking Holbrook to all areas, a dream likely to come true.
Elks Antlers Club has organized a lakeside picnic with songs speeches and a boxing contest schedule beginning 10:30 am with opening by Star Spangled Banner and speeches by W. Ferguson Mrs. C. H. Jordan and G. T. West. Lunch at noon followed by a kangaroo court and boat rides swimming and dancing into the afternoon ending with supper.

Work at the Adamana well is progressing rapidly and indications are more encouraging than before. Definite signs are hoped within the next two weeks. The project will continue steadily. The company has moved into new offices in the Title Building which are comfortable and convenient.
A Winslow report says W J Crozier will be a candidate for Supervisor from Winslow Supervisorial District with no apparent opposition. Friends in other parts of Navajo County view this as good news and the News joins in hoping the report is authentic. Crozier would make an excellent supervisor.
W. W. Franklin was called upon in Winslow Memorial Day events to perform the bugle salute. An expert with the instrument he gladly helped honor the dead who gave their lives for their country.
The text notes wide automobile use in highways and acknowledges remaining work. It remarks on accomplishments as an earnest of future improvements in the highway system.
A Memorial Day ball game played here resembled a practice with high scores noted. A match against Leupp is anticipated a week after the coming Sunday. The team plans to participate in the Winslow Baseball Tournament hosted by the American Legion as part of the Fourth of July celebration.
Professor and Mrs John Brannigan depart Holbrook this week for California. Professor Brannigan will attend a Berkeley summer course combining pleasure and profit. They will be missed during summer and welcomed back in the fall by Holbrook circles.
Mr and Mrs Stewart of Heber were in town during the early part of the week. They motored in and brought their son's wife who is traveling to southern Utah to be with a sister who is ill.
The Holbrook Chamber of Commerce will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening at the Court House. Attendance at the last meeting was meager and all members are urged to be present due to matters of vital importance demanding their attention. Be sure and be there.
Dr. S Earl Taylor and his entire force took a vacation this week visiting the Grand Canyon. They left Holbrook Tuesday and returned Thursday. Miss Owens, who accompanied the party, reports a most wonderful trip.
One of Holbrook's oldest residents, Mrs. Perfecta Barth, died Friday at nine in the morning after a long illness. A longtime town resident since the early days, she lived at the Duran home where she passed quietly. Catholic rites will be observed at interment Saturday. she was about 76. Her husband, brother of Sol Barth of St Johns, and likely both children are dead. Barth once ran a Holbrook store during pioneer times. The piece notes veterans of Holbrook quietly aging.
The Jennings Auto Co presents a unique display in its Porter Street window made entirely from Ford parts. The lifelike comice locomotive and tender draw kids and sparks imagination, with a cow catcher and rails suggesting movement as if steam might billow from the safety valve.
County Attorney Greer handled several cases before Judge Sweeney. Pedro Hernandez bound over to the Superior Court on burglary tied to the Rabbit Bros. Store robbery in Winslow with a $2000 bond and a prior 18 month penitentiary record in New Mexico. A Mexican man bound over on a whiskey charge, another pleaded guilty to stealing coal for a $10 fine, and a third man accused of receiving stolen property escaped on alibi. The day featured threats by the defendant toward the principal witness, Sicilio.
The Holbrook Woman's Club plans a June 7 banquet to conclude its year. The event will feature the motto Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we diet as part of the formal celebration with traditional trimmings.
The funeral for Mr Parr, a well known Holbrook figure, was held last Monday in Winslow after injuries from a ladder fall near Los Angeles. He was 67, a former state legislator, and member of multiple orders including Masons, Eastern Star, Royal Arch, Scottish Rites, Elks and Maccabees. Survivors include his wife and several daughters. notable attendees included Judge T R Greer, Atty W J Ferguson, and C H Jordan. The service was conducted under Winslow Masonic Lodge auspices.
The Arizona Lumber and Timber Company along with Saginaw-Manistee Flagstaff and Apache mills resume or operate, producing 98 percent of the state's timber, about 160 million feet annually. About 3,000 workers and 9,000 dependents are affected, with $2.5 million in payroll and $4.3 million in expenditures spent in state. Total five-mill investment stands at $10 million and taxes amount to roughly $100,000, aiding road building.
Mr and Mrs J Elledge depart for a month long trip to Carthage Missouri and nearby areas. He vows to catch and eat a big bass for our special delectation during the journey.
