Holbrook State Bank Sold. Raynolds To Lead New Bank

L M Raynolds and Albuquerque associates completed the Holbrook State Bank purchase this week. Raynolds arrived with his wife and soon became cashier and active manager, with other officers to be chosen later. The bank, formerly a Holbrook branch of Navajo Apache, was bought after prior acquisitions that created three banks in the area. Lloyd C Henning retires from banking to serve as clerk of the superior court and attend to other interests.

Base Ball Club Reorganized At Holbrook Meeting

Holbrook base ball club reorganized with J. W. McGowan elected manager and L. D. Kunkle resigning. Jesse B. Hulet reelected secretary treasurer. A second club to be trained, with 18 to 20 players kept in training and nine ready for each contest. Practice games twice weekly ahead of Sunday game at St Johns.

Civil Suit Against First Estate Ends In Favor Of Defendant

In Justice Court last Saturday Judge Boyer presided with a jury as A D Lathrop sued the B First estate. The verdict, directed by Judge Boyer, favored the defendant. Lathrop, represented by Thorwald Larson, faced C H Jordan and J E Crosby for the First estate. The case arose from Lathrop's money spent on the First building while renting it for a restaurant, about 150 dollars involved.

Octogenarian Susan Mann celebrated in Holbrook

The Elderly Ladies Rest Club of Holbrook honored Mrs. Susan E. Mann on her 80th birthday at her daughter Mrs. James H. Secorse’s home. A gold thimble was presented, followed by a formal luncheon, with guests from Holbrook and Conway Iowa. A large pink candle cake and toasts closed the celebration amid warm tributes to her character and lifelong devotion to family.

Winslow Wins Ball Game On Winslow Grounds

The Winslow baseball club defeated Holbrook 15 to 10 on Winslow grounds last Sunday in front of a fair crowd, reflecting steady practice and improved play. Holbrook rested its strongest players and used substitutes, and will face St. Johns in St. Johns next Sunday.

J H Fuller of Winslow sold cattle sheep and range rights to Tom Pollock and Cole Campbell of Flagstaff for close to a half million dollars. Richards sells sheep ranch in Wildcat Chevelon Canyon

J. W. Richards county treasurer sold to C. I. Houck of Winslow his sheep ranch in Wildcat and Chevelon Canyon about 50 miles southwest of Holbrook. The sale included 2700 head of ewes with lambs, rights in the forest reserve and improvements. Approximately 27000 dollars were involved in the cash transaction.

Arizona University Grants Largest Class Degree Honors

The University of Arizona conferred bachelor degrees on thirty six graduates and masters degrees on nine post graduates as the largest class in the institution’s history graduated Wednesday.

Birthday Party For Rencher Daughters And Friend

Mrs. A L Rencher hosted a Thursday birthday party for her daughters Minnie aged seven and Beula aged four, and their friend Johnny Lassiter aged six. Twelve children attended, enjoying games and dancing, followed by a tea with sandwiches, candy, nuts, ice cream, cake, and grape juice. Pink and white decorations and three birthday cakes with candles framed the table.

Chas Cooley Wins Challenge Trophy at Gun Club Shoot

Charles Cooley captured the Challenge Trophy by beating Rencher 23x25 to 19x25 after a three bird handicap. Other scores included Black 24x25 Patterson 24x25 Easley 17x25. The club plans its June 25 Beginners Shoot with a sterling silver watch fob from Du Pont Powder Company as prize. All entrants who have not shot 500 targets before May 1 are eligible, not required to be club members.
