Rains Trigger Flood Emergency in Navajo County
Heavy rains after snow and warm weather caused widespread flooding across Navajo County. Show Low and Fool’s Hollow lakes threatened to overflow as roads and bridges in Heber Overgaard and Pine Top Show Low area were washed out. Route 60 377 and 277 were closed, with sandbags prepared and emergency services on standby. The governor and state agencies were alerted as crews monitored rising waters and shifting storms. Holbrook school board keeps dormitory open for now
Holbrook School Board on December 14 voted to allow out of district Indian students living in the Holbrook dormitory to continue attending Holbrook High for the rest of the school year. The decision hinges on BIA tuition payments. if not forthcoming, the students may not return for 1979-80. The dispute involves four border districts and the Bureau of Indian Affairs over approximately $92,000 in owed tuition.

APS Probes Cause of Coal Silos Blast at Cholla Plant
APS reported ongoing investigation into last week's explosion that ripped tops from two coal silos at the Cholla Power Plant. No injuries occurred and damages reached $50,000 while generator number one was out of service at 50 percent until repairs, with capacity restored to 100 percent after the blast. Pete Klute of APS said no cause yet found and an official announcement will follow.
