Marden Returns for Day in Holbrook Visit

Jack Marden returned to Holbrook yesterday morning from a brief business trip to Prescott and Jerome. He received a message to return to Prescott for a consultation with men eager to enter the Holbrook oil field. He left that evening and will not return until Sunday. He told the News the Holbrook Oil Company is progressing and ready to start drilling soon.

Dolman Hopes State Aid For Holbrook High School

Prof. C G Dolman returned from Phoenix where he spent a week lobbying for Holbrook high school seeking 2500 dollars. He noted strong interest in Holbrook oil fields and believes state funding will be approved despite doubt over the exact amount. Holbrook is seen as advancing and poised to rise in prominence once oil is found.

Holbrook Tribune to Start Weekly Publication in Casper

Holbrook M. H. Bryan and Jo X. Bryan of Casper Wyoming plan a new newspaper plant in the Wetaler Hotel building this week. The plant includes a typesetting machine and a Miehle press. The composing machine is at the railroad station. The paper will be called the Holbrook Tribune and issued weekly.

Red Cross Knitters Meet Regularly At Mrs Garrison Home

Mrs Meta Garrison chairman of the Red Cross knitting committee says Tuesday afternoon sessions at her home will continue indefinitely. Yarn is on hand for sweaters and socks. Sheriff’s Office Busy In War On Booze Transporters

The sheriff’s department reports ongoing activity against bootleggers and horse thieves. In recent days about six victims and twenty cases of wet goods were seized, with sentences in many cases set at $300 and six months. Sheriff Newman captured two alleged horse thieves twelve miles below Winslow on the Little Colorado River. the pair had horses and claimed prior trading six to seven times. One suspect has confessed to horse stealing and further Holbrook area developments are expected.

Fifty jurors ordered by superior court for Marley case

At 3:00 PM Wednesday the county sheriff received a superior court order for fifty men to report as jurors at 10:00 AM Thursday. Fifty men from across the county reported to Judge Frank H. Lyman at Holbrook for duty, a result of Sheriff Newman and Undersheriff Harp to carry out the order after riding all night.

Army man Will Pullen reports from Camp Travis Texas

Will Pullen a former Holbrook resident now serves in the United States army at Camp Travis San Antonio Texas He writes May 30 saying he is in Company 45 at the camp He was rejected by the navy three times but joined the army finds the service good with meals a bed and clothes He hopes to go over there to defeat the Kaiser and make the world a better place for true Americans closing with God bless all who are kind to him.
