During the first five months 147 names were enrolled on the registers with a peak of 129 and an average attendance of 113. Clean-up day on Thursday was postponed to Friday due to weather. Students cleared rocks and sand, leveled hills, and cleaned grounds. The improvements improved study afterward.

Married couple J. J. Bryan from Chambers Arizona and Nancy L. Wilson wed in Guthrie Oklahoma on January 7. The ceremony completed a long romance sparked during Bryan’s visit to relatives in Chambers with many readers following the couple’s news. Bryan works for the Santa Fe railway in Guthrie and is a property holder who has set up a new home with his bride.
Dr. F H Waite died on Wednesday of last week at his home on West Third Street Winslow. He served as justice of the peace of that precinct and was a longtime resident, a member of the Episcopal church and a prominent Mason. Funeral services were held at the family home under the local Masonic Lodge. He is survived by a wife and daughter and many friends.
Preaching Monday evening at 7 30 and Sunday school Sunday afternoon at 2 30 invite all. Cake M Ross is pastor. Mrs T J Hesser and Miss Hesser visited Holbrook last Saturday from Winslow.
Obituary for Albert Py Utley notes his death after a brief illness at 21, funeral held Thursday, interment at North Side cemetery. Fire department limited damage at a blaze in W H Burbage’s law office. New Christian church foundation laid at Winslow Aspinwall corner with body work to start after lumber arrives. B of R T to sponsor Electric Theatre event March 17 with a five piece band. Local boys organize a baseball club. artist Joe Bauer buys four Mahoney lots and moves family into town.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints invites all to Sunday School in the Old School House at 10:30 a.m. The YM and YL meet Sundays in Judge Larson's office at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited.
The church announces preachings every second and fourth Wednesday at 8 p m led by Rev. Jacob M White of St Pauls Episcopal Winslow. Lou Turberville returned to Pinto last Tuesday and Bill Jim Clark visited Winslow during the week. Wagon loads of provisions are being hauled to St Johns and Concho this week. Prank Wallace unloaded furniture shipped from Denver. A Vandewart arrived from Boston and heads to Phoenix for the season while visiting woolgrowers along the line for Salter Bros Boston agents.
The town mourns as seven year old Nina Cross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Cross, dies after rheumatic heart disease and pneumonia. She passed at 1 30 Sunday morning and funeral services were held at 2 36 Monday at the family home, burial in Fairview cemetery with Elder S D Smith and others assisting. The bereaved family receives sympathy from Holbrook and surrounding country.
Card of Thanks extends grateful thanks to friends for help during illness and death of the cherished daughter. Local items note visits by Mr. Morse, Ranger Nyce, Rev. White, Rev. Ross, Miss Sickel, and others. Notaries, marriages, property improvements, and W. H. Clark’s leasing plans cited as regional civic activity.
A high noon Navajo county wedding unites James Donohue and Margery Wallace under Judge John Flanigan. Pink and white theme, sister as matron of honor, best man G W Hennessey, with a large guest list and a Pastime dance to close the day.
Mr and Mrs Cooley were called to the ranch last Saturday due to the sudden illness of Mr Cooley's father who is suffering from paralysis. Later reports say he is much improved and hopes for recovery from the serious stroke.
Los Angeles reports a prehistoric human skeleton found in the La Brea tar pits six miles west of the city. The nearly complete remains lie beside a mammoth and a wolf, with skull and vertebrae clearly human. Director Daggett notes uncertainty about period but confirms human bones. Further research is planned to verify age and context.
