Bridge Plan Moves Ahead At Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon National Park officials announce a river bridge will be built just east of Bright Angel trail to connect the south and north rims. Construction is to begin around January 1921 with material hauled via mule down the perilous Bright Angel trail. The project follows Secretary Payne’s veto of Santa Fe Railroad aerial tramway plans and aligns with Director Mather and park service goals for expanded visitor access and a larger canyon camp.
