U S Geological Survey expert N H Carlton says Meteor Mine Butte was not formed by an impact crater but by a steam explosion rising through Coconino sandstone. He notes the inward pressure from surrounding rocks diminished at that point and the government name given is Crater Butte.
The Udall Transportation Co opens a new office to better serve inland towns. The firm operates daily stages between Holbrook and Eager Ft. Apache Keams Canyon and other points. Sherwood returns from El Paso with three luxurious White trucks for baggage mail and express on the routes.
The First National Bank of Holbrook has received its first consign ment of five dollar bills bearing the bank name and signed by D J Thomas. This is Holbrook’s first time featuring its name on such stationery. Road camps for the new Holbrook Winslow highway have moved to the flat west of town, with good weather ahead promising a fine boulevard between the towns.
The sheriff's office recovered a large Buick stolen from a Winslow owner. The car is kept in Clovis New Mexico. Officials expect to arrest Enoch Wilson, alleged thief, formerly of Railroad City, possibly in Angeles. Deputy Sheriff W G Kelly located the vehicle and is away on official travel in the Midwest.
Navajo County Republicans met at Holbrook Court House to choose candidates for fall offices. No filings were announced for County Attorney, Assessor, Treasurer, or Clerk of the Court. A committee reported no definite selections and vacancies on the ticket may be filled later.
Me W B Farr has purchased the dairy cows owned by Mr Solomon and took over the dairy on Wednesday. This expands Farr's business interests and signals Holbrook now has a lasting dairy operation. The town had been known for rivers with little water and few cows, but this venture changes that perception.
Holbrook supporters traveled to Winslow for a Sunday baseball game that was spoiled by rain. Holbrook led four to two as Brown Capps hit two home runs and showed form. The next game, scheduled for August 6, will be at the Holbrook home diamond.
The Winslow Mail announces Sam Proctor of Winslow has taken over the plant and will supervise the paper. The staff welcomes him and expects his leadership to boost the paper’s success.
Salt Lake City speakers Dr. Talmadge and Judge Hart addressed a large audience at the L D S Church last Sunday. Talmadge spoke on Paul's Unknown God and humanity's drift from God, urging all to seek him again. He plans a brief rest at the Grand Canyon before attending conferences in St Johns Snowflake and Pine.
Mr Julius Wetzler states the Forestry Department has leased rooms in the H S Wetzler building and will occupy them soon. This development adds two families to Holbrook and signals growth for the town.
Multiple candidates announce runs for Navajo County offices including Sheriff Clerk of the Court County Treasurer and Recorder subject to Democratic or Republican primaries on September 12, 1922. Names include Thos R Greer George J Schaefer Lucretia W Flanigan Hattie Penrod Flaharty and J W Richards among others.
Big Tom Hubbard campaigned in town on Monday amid a crowded slate of contenders. Town chatter jokes that soon an ordinance could require licenses for all candidates and lock them up in the pound if they fail to comply.
A Tucson letter mailed November 21 1921 to The News contained a small check but the cash was taken while the envelope was opened. The Postal Inspector reports the mail car theft near Maricopa on November 2 1921 by Roy G Gardner and notes Gardner is serving 25 years in Leavenworth.
The Elk Lodge in Winslow held its initiation ceremonies last Saturday night. Several Holbrook members joined the order including L. Cadwell Leo Reed and land Small. Present at the initiation were J. E. Crosby W. E. Ferguson and C. H. Jordan from Holbrook.
Miss Rachel Thomas returned from her trip to Gallup last Saturday morning. She enjoyed nuptial festivities and served as bridesmaid at a friend's wedding. Mrs. Lindsey of Gallup returned to Holbrook as a house guest of Miss Thomas. She will stay about a week. Mr. Hammond of Reams Canyon visited Holbrook on Sunday.
Deputy Sheriff Geo Woolford brought in Andy Erland charged with violating local drinking norms. At arraignment in the Superior Court he pled guilty and paid a $200 fine. the report notes "George" remains vigilant on the job.

The Adamana well by Arizona Consolidated Oil Company on a royalty basis has overcome a difficult easing job. Four inch casing is set and water shut off, with drilling continuing toward an estimated 2350 feet by late next week. Dr. S Earl Taylor reports strong support from financiers for Higgins Dome financing and other Holbrook field developments forthcoming.
Manuel Diez of Winslow was adjudged insane after examination and sent to the State Asylum for the Insane in Phoenix. Deputy Sheriff W C Kelly transported him from Winslow with B J Stewart of Heber assisting, while the man reportedly bore scratches on his face. The piece notes public concern over a candidate’s appearance during campaigns.
City Council decided to halve the sewer assessment rate, setting a new charge of 15 dollars per twenty five foot lot. Assessments must be paid within thirty days to fund bids, with lateral connections to be laid and the main trunk line from the schoolhouse to the sewage tank already in place.
