J P Ryan, back in Holbrook after ten days in Los Angeles, notes quieter streets than on his prior visit as crowds dwindle due to the war. He reports business remaining active despite the subdued activity overall.

Adamana Rigs Set to Arrive and Start Work

Three oil drilling rigs purchased by Adamana company in New Mexico are loaded in Santa Fe cars at Thor eau and due at Holbrook tomorrow. Timbers for derricks hauled to the site. drilling expected to start soon. Hopi Oil Company contracts for timely timber delivery by Monday or Tuesday. crews build dams and install water pump and pipeline to the camp. If all goes well, the derrick will be well up in the air by next week.

Fred R. Fulham, recently in Chloride and Weaver mining districts, arrived in Holbrook Sunday morning and toured the oil field with L. D. Sandefur and W. J. Hennessey of Adamana Oil and Land Co. He plans a week or more in Holbrook meeting mining friends while expressing faith in the company's upcoming development and his financial interest.

Chino Oil Company Plans Drill in Holbrook Area

United Chino Oil Company, active in the Chino valley field, has acquired a Holbrook land parcel and will begin drilling within days. The report is believed authentic but not verifiable this week.

News of an oil strike at Aztec, N. M. reaches Holbrook as W H Chamberlain, manager of the L B Putney Mercantile Co, receives congratulations. He owns a Farming ton ranch five miles from the well and hopes the find makes him a notable oil proprietor, joining the region’s magnates.

Senator S G Mayfield and associates report promising manganese samples from a Gila county property. The ore mirrors the Las Vegas Nevada deposit reputedly offered at over a million dollars. Globe People Involved In Auto Bandit Chase

An Arizona party from Globe including County Clerk Frank Gates Deputy U S Marshal Frank Haynes County Supervisor Pat Rose and others chased two bandits from Williams through Holbrook to Winslow. One officer was wounded a posse member killed two Powers brothers and Tom Sisson. Haynes survived and alerted Graham county officers.

Alger Remembers Friends and Plans Oil Field Work

Alger, noted oilman and fisherman, returned from a three week White Mountains trip with speckled beauties for friends. He will repair a Hopi Oil large track in Globe then brim it to Holbrook for field use. Fay Mills, his former partner, is expected back this week after joining Uncle Sam but underweight single digits.

Lightning Kills Sheep Herder and Wounds Companion

During an evening electrical storm near Snowflake Arizona, shearer Alexandre Chavez employed by S W Jaques was killed by a bolt. Harold Hardin was struck and knocked unconscious, his horse also killed. Chavez was en route to Holbrook on business. A coroner’s jury found the facts, Chavez buried in Holbrook. The National telegraph and telephone system was placed under federal control.

W R Scorse Enters Army Service

W R Scorse the well known druggist passed the enlistment exam in Los Angeles last Saturday and went to Fort McDowell near San Francisco to begin duties. He sought the medical corps but will take any assignment. His wife and children stay in Long Beach until next month then return to Holbrook.
