Carlsbad residents vote on paving plans for city streets as work schedules begin Monday amid mixed support. Caliche base projects are planned for Monument boulevard and a 12 mile stretch near Carlsbad, with Lea county still lacking paving. Weather and local tax discussion appear in nearby notes.
Hobbs teachers at a convention elected a New Mexico official as chair. Mrs. Nolabelle was re elected as secretary of the organization. Local schools plan to resume studies Monday after dismissal this week.

City planning committee says surfacing of Carlsbad Street will begin Monday November 4 under a WPA grant. Jim Evans named project supervisor with Grosvenor from State Highway Engineering in charge. Eighteen workers today, rising to thirty five, eight month timeline. Assessments payable at Town Hall from $21.41 to $1 800.00 to fund the project and aid further grants. An additional $22 000 grant is sought to seal and blacktop after caliche lays.
Hobbs High School Eagles renew their rivalry with the Lovington eleven this afternoon at Lovington. A hard tussle is anticipated after last year's 6 to 6 draw amid injuries and strong lines on both sides. Baker scored the winning counter for Hobbs in a recent home game.
Jobe Rollins Chevrolet will showcase 1936 GM cars at their South Turner street showroom with Chevrolet Buick Pontiac and Oldsmobile on display. Open house runs all day with music at 3 pm and a dance from 9 to 10 30 pm. Coffee served 2 30 pm to 10 30 pm. At 8 30 pm prizes include radio hot water heater and Prestone. visitors must register.
The Silver State Shows arrive next Monday under the Hobbs American Legion post. Tour claims the season’s largest carnival with Captain Kenneth Blake and his 120 foot fire dive. Eight rides nine shows and twenty five concessions are listed for the event.
The Roosevelt Theatre presents Becky Sharp starring Miriam Hopkins Frances Dee Billie Burke Allison Skipworth Cedric Hardwicke and Nigel Bruce. Screened in Technicolor the film runs from Saturday 6 PM through Monday night with grand ball sequences in Brussels on the eve of Waterloo.
