New Hobbs votes on sewer bonds and election of recorder and treasurer. Voters approved a $40,000 sewer bond. In treasurer race Ashley defeated incumbent Wire 103 to 50. Final tallies show ballots cast 44, with 35 for bonds and 9 against.

William H. Carter, 74, died at General Hospital Tuesday night from heart failure and double pneumonia. He was the father of Park Carter and was a longtime resident connected to the ee 3 de Contes home.

ENMU Portales Seeks 400 Student Aid Grants

A fire from a leaking pipe near a battery of tanks on the Gyp sy lease caused much excitement Thursday noon but did little damage. The fire department extinguished the blaze quickly.

Mrs. Woods Bitten by Rattlesnake in Lovington Yard

Mrs. Dal Woods of near Lovington was bitten by a large rattlesnake Saturday morning as she stepped from her yard. She received serum and is reported to be doing nicely. Warnings are issued to watch for rattlesnakes in August when they are blind and commonly seek warm spots.

At a meeting of the Independent Progress party in Hobbs Pecwten Jd. D. Jones was elected Chairman of Lea County Central Committee and Ben H. Cook was chosen secretary. The organizers report 329 members in Hobbs and note no affiliation with other state groups.

Charles J. Canada Dies in Albuquerque Vet Hospital

Charles J. Canada died at the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque on a Saturday from asthma and lung complications. He moved to Hobbs in 1930 with his wife and children and used the Se Goodwin Funeral Home for services. Interment followed at North Cemetery.

Austin sentence suspended in narcotic addict case

John Austin pleaded guilty to narcotic addiction charges and received 90 days in county jail. The sentence was suspended on conditions that he remain in a program or under supervision and that similar behavior not occur.

Raids Prompt Seven Gambling Complaints in Eunice
