James Sisco was acquitted by a jury after the state failed to produce a key witness in the rape case involving seven year old Dorothy Lee Cochran. Attorneys George Harris and Melvin Neal defended Sisco, while Boots Clark faced unrelated charges in the same proceedings.
Word reached of the death of Sam Bell a longtime Bell Grocery owner near the high school in Hobbs. He had operated the store for five years and was beloved by children from kindergarten to high school. Interment was held in Molifie Illinois. Mrs Bell and friends extend their sympathy.
Joe Bryson and Eva Lee Greebon wed Saturday evening at the Greeces ranch north of Hobbs. Rev. J. W. Williams presided as vows were spoken. Guests included Z A Bryson and Mrs. Harold Wilson and others. Baptist church ladies hosted a shower with gifts and best wishes for the couple.
Report notes Witchott out of town for several days and not returned. Deputy B D Witchen alleges he fully imprisoned a Lea county rancher weeks ago. The Witcher case was continued until September 9.
Fire crews battled a blaze at the Ryebrook factory district warehouse today. Investigators say an overheated machine likely sparked the flames causing substantial damage but no fatalities. The site remains under assessment as workers receive support.
