New Mexico to Get Money for Roads Under New Bill

Washington state high departments will oversee expenditure of more than $44,000,000 allocated to Montana, Wyoming, Dade and New Mexico for road construction and grade crossing elimination. New Mexico will receive $7,465,000 for roads and streets and $2,742,000 for grade crossing elimination.

Porter Held on Knife Assault Charge

D W Porter remained in Loving county jail late yesterday in default of a 2000 dollar bond on charges of assault and attempt to kill. The case stems from a fight in which R L Russell suffered severe knife wounds and was released from a local hospital earlier this week.

Hobbs High Declamation Winners Named for County Meet

Bob Robbins won the Senior Declamation try-out at Hobbs High School and will represent the school in the county scholastic meet began here today. In the Junior division, James Woodward took first place and Alma Fern Bell second honors.

Shell Test Assured as Producer at Als ton and Dalmont

Shell Test is assured as a producer with the Shell Townsite well at Als ton and Dalmont streets showing a three headflows hourly after bring in. Shell No. D-2 five miles northeast of Hobbs pool edge was brought in last week for a potential of 8344 barrels from acid treated lime pay at 4260 feet. Funeral rites for A. W. Lowrance held in Carlsbad

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church for A. W. Lowrance who died Tuesday in Carlsbad. The body was taken to Fort Worth in the Pierce hearse and interment was made there yesterday.

Voters to Elect Hobbs Commissioners on May 21

Mayor L W Gay issued a proclamation ordering an election on Tuesday May 21 to elect a Mayor and two Commissioners for the Town of Hobbs. Candidates must file with the Town Clerk within three days before the election. The proclamation follows a disputed March 26 poll where over 200 voters backed a commission form despite a restraining order from Judge Patton.

Hobbs Golf Club Sand Belt schedule announced this year

The Hobbs Golf Club released its Sand Belt League schedule for the season. Hobbs travels to Lamesa on April 21 and to Midland on June 2 and Stanton on June 16. Home matches feature Col orado on May 65, Big Spring on May 19, La Mesa on July 8, Colorado on July 14, and Hobbs hosts Big Spring on July 28.

Two Men Wanted for Car Theft Reported

Sheriff Sam Cain is expected to return today from Paynee Oklahoma with McNeil Gardner and Edward Wells. The men were detained there with possession of a car stolen from George Collins.

Shell Employes Elect Grievance Committee

At an election held last week Joe Edson John Rowe and Jimmie Calcote were elected members of the Shell Pipe Line employee grievance committee. C G Staley supervised the election as disinterested party Mr Sears of St Louis represented the management and Jimmie Calcote represented the employes as election judges. Officials of the Local Union represented that body. Memorandum of terms between the Shell Pipeline employes and the management was recently negotiated by the Local Oil Field Workers Union and the Shell management. Local Union officials expressed gratification at the fairness and consideration of Mr Sears who represented the Shell management in signing the agreement.

12 Schools of County Here to Compete

Lea County schools gather in Hobbs for the Lea County Interscholastic Meet to be held today and tomorrow. Forensics begin at 1 30 this afternoon at Hobbs High School. Senior forensics tonight at 6 30. Track and field start at 9 00 Saturday morning at the East Carlsbad athletic field with events split by senior/junior levels across morning and afternoon sessions.
