The Democratic Party in Lake and Porter counties plans a convention at Huehn's hall Hammond on Saturday September 10 to nominate candidates for senator and prosecutor. Delegates will be selected in Lake county towns at 1 pm September 9 with Hobart township allotted one delegate and one alternate. A joint Lake Newton convention will be held at 1 pm September 10 in the same hall to choose a joint representative.
Democratic voters in Hobart township and affiliates are notified that a mass meeting will be held Sept 9 at 8 p m in the Hobart Town Hall to nominate candidates for township offices including Justices of the Peace Constables and three Advisory Board members Ed Keilman is Township Chairman and Ed Fiester is Secretary. All school books and supplies must be paid in cash.
South Side Gary faces an impending wave of closures as roughly 210 saloons may operate by month end after a September county meeting where about a dozen saloon men sought liquor licenses. City Clerk Harry Moose notes 197 licenses issued to date, signaling uncertain revival prospects.
The Gary Postman reports a proposed winter effort to pass an enabling act merging Gary Indiana Harbor East Chicago Hammond Whiting Hobart Miller and East Gary into a single Calumet region municipality. The plan envisions a city twelve miles long and seven miles wide along the lake shore from the Illinois line to Griffith with a London like centralized public utilities system.

He contends first papers and registration numbers enable easier cross-checking with deportment records, improving election integrity in Michigan City Ft Wayne Evansville and other cities.
Friends gathered Monday at Louie Hillman’s home for a birthday bird shoot and social time. Participants from local families included L. E. Barnes topped the score and a chicken dinner followed.
A dance will be held in Deitz hall at Deepriver on Wednesday evening September 14. Music will be provided by C W Spencers orchestra. Everyone invited and a good time assured.
