The Ladies' Aid Society met at the M. E. Parsonage last Wednesday and elected officers for the year: President Mrs. Deetta Miller Vice President Mrs. John Frame Secretary Mrs. Ella Zaugg Treasurer Mrs. Bell Crockett.
President Taft signs proclamation removing 9 940 acres from Boise National Forest Idaho and 563 331 acres from Ozark Forest Arkansas as land found of little value for forestry purposes.
A year ago Trustee L. E. Barnes hired school wagon drivers without bids amid criticism. State Examiner W. A. Deharity states township trustees may use discretion in driver employment, but must guard against abuse and prioritize children’s welfare. All trustees were advised per the letter.
Chief of Police Martins report to the board of public safety states 2912 arrests in Gary during 1910, about one per five residents. Steel city stats reveal 212 saloons, a saloon for every eight residents, as municipal agitation over a rival police department moves to a council meeting Monday night.

Mrs L Shirmer the demented wife of a railroad man in Hammond escaped in shackles from the Lake county infirmary Crown Point on Wednesday. She was found at her home twenty four miles away Thursday night arriving there in a blizzard. Moving only twelve inches at a time she covered the distance in two days without food or drink in zero weather. Her feet and hands are frost bitten but her condition is not serious.
Three year old and five year old children of Mr and Mrs Daniel Maller of Tolleston died within 24 hours of each other after suspected poisoning from a cheap Christmas can. One child fell ill about 20 hours after onset, while parents slept, and the other endured 36 hours before dying in agony.

P. F. Jacobson, newly elected town clerk, has resigned citing a Chicago job offer. He asks the resignation take effect immediately, with board action to occur at the next regular meeting Monday night.

Senator Gavit of Lake county plans a bill to require consent of a neighboring city before annexing another city that borders it. The measure responds to tensions among Hammond Whiting East Chicago and Gary. Gavit lives in Whiting, a city East Chicago and Gary have attempted to absorb.
Twenty four ladies hosted a miscellaneous shower for Mrs. O. D. Morton at her Main Street home last Friday evening. Guests left many elegant gifts in cut glass silver linen and other items. The event featured games and sociability followed by luncheon at Henderson's.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Devonshire marked their 48th anniversary in Hobart where they have lived over 44 years. Married in Cornwall, England in 1863, they reside in their longtime home and hope to celebrate many more golden years together.
Hobart resident Jacob Beemer died in Chicago on Tuesday from pneumonia at about 50 years old after a period of ill health. He leaves a mother and two sisters, all in Chicago. His remains were brought to Hobart for interment and the funeral will be held Thursday at 2 30 PM from the M E church with Rev Servies officiating.
Senator Gavit has been appointed to the committees on judiciary organization of courts rail roads mines and mining telephones and telegraph congressional apportionment cities and towns and soldiers and sailors monument. He holds the most committee assignments of any Republican senator.
