Masquerade Ball Awards Honor Hobart Camp Event

The third annual prize masquerade under Hobart Camp M W A at the opera house drew heavy attendance. Beach's orchestra played as prizes for 24 categories were awarded to winners from Hobart Chicago Indiana Harbor and Deepriver with items ranging from cigars and umbrellas to cash and subscriptions.

Death of Amos Zuvers Noted In Lake County History

Amos Zuvers aged born in 1833 83 died yesterday at the home of his son Marion in Hammond Indiana. He helped pioneer Lake County lived in Liverpool Merrillville and Hobart and raised five children including Clara Nitchman and Marion E Zavers. He served in 1862 as a volunteer in Co A 99th Indiana and was buried under the Masonic lodge auspices with Hobart Masons aiding in the rites.

Decision Against Railroads From Indiana Supreme Court

Nearly two years ago attorney H S Barr acting as special judge at Valparaiso tried a case filed by Chicago Erie railroad against a dredging company over dredging near Boone Grove Porter county Damages claimed 20000 for detouring trains and other expenses The Supreme court upheld Barr’s lower court ruling that drainage is a public necessity and railroads have no damages claim The decision affects all railroads in the state It may cut about 60000 from Burns ditch assessments The report notes prior dredging conflicts and notes Scarlet fever quarantines at George Storey and Rudolph Van Loon homes.
