Recognizance Terms for Sub Governors and Directors 1720
The document imposes five thousand pounds per surety on Sub-Governors and Directors. It requires entry into recognizances not to depart the kingdom for one year from December 8, 1720, or until the next Parliament session. Neglect to enter recognizances by February 8, 1720 incurs imprisonment in the Fleet without bail until year’s end or next Parliament session. Further, offences of leaving the kingdom or aiding departure carry felony death penalties and land forfeitures. By March 25, 1920, each officer must oath a detailed inventory of estates and personal property.
