Republican Rally Draws Big Crowd in Hilo District
Rain did not dampen a large turnout at the Republican rally in the Ely Thursday night at Wainkea. Delegates and speakers including Admiral Beckley and Delegate Kuhio drew applause as a light procession moved to the millroad warehouse. The crowd of about 500 heard Lewis on party unity, Kinney criticized Democrats, and Smith urged strong county government while contrasting GOP aims with West Hawaii cattle interests. The event showcased political clash ahead of the legislature and highlighted Republican support for a strong national policy.
