Portico Past Promises Old Spirit With Fourth Festivities
In Hilo the May Fourth celebration attracts readers with promises of spectacle and progress. The editor recalls changing landscapes from Honolulu to Port of Honolulu shipyards while urging attendance for a day of races, parades, and a stage show featuring Elke minstrels, as roads and rail progress are celebrated over fear of losing the traditional Hawaiian scenery. Community pride and regional development mingle with nostalgia as plans unfold for a festive public event.
