In the Hilo Coribune dated June 12 1906 officials discuss forestry practices noting that careful logging using new science can preserve rain, rivers, and moisture. The piece praises free discussion by the Tax Social Science Club of Honolulu and commends Hilo schools for growth, new facilities, and strong industrial training programs.
A band benefit at the Armory on Thursday night for Chas. Caceres drew good patrons with proceeds over 60 dollars and about 50 dollars net after light expenses. Caceres played piano during the dances and impressed with his brilliant execution despite reading raised musical characters due to imperfect vision. The Kina volcano party arrived Wednesday, stayed several days, and considered returning via Hilo or the Mauna Loa steamer. Members listed include Mr and Mrs Chillman, Miss Brooks, Dr. Schulta, Mr and Mrs Williams, Mrs Spencer, Rugerie Swan, F. Whitin, and the Phelpses.
The incorporation papers for the Filo Pineapple Co. remained with the Registrar of Public Accounts for two months, then in Secretary Vicars inquiry officials learned they were with the Attorney General. Officials offered no reason for the delay. On Friday June 8, 1906, a son was born to the wife of W H Beers.
Eben P Low negotiates with Hawaii Promotion Committee to send Edison moving picture man to Kohala for ditch opening coverage. A grand parade in Honolulu could be shifted to another day, while a shipper steamer Kinawto sails Saturday night for Mahukona. Waiakea Social Settlement reports 429 dispensary cases since May 1 and notes active classes and growing English interest. Closing exercises at Hilo Union School slated for June 14 and 15 with patriotic programs. Departures listed include J Phelps and wife and several residents.
Land Commissioner Pratt told Governor Carter that applications from settlement associations will be rejected. The government will not bind itself to transfers while leases remain in effect. Several associations seek lands leased to sugar companies with leases expiring in 1906 to 1910. The Osorio and other associations have inspired new groups, but their bona fides and profit motives remain to be evaluated.
The jam regular instruction for this year at the High school will be Thursday forenoon June 14 between nine and twelve. Teachers will illustrate briefly the year’s work and invite all interested to attend and judge the nature of the study.
A Kaiwiki Portuguese farmer with a half acre of coffee trees sold his crop to Hilo Coffee Mill for 80. He regrets pruning his remaining trees after poor guidance, as the trimmed ones died while the taller, untrimmed trees grew to 15 feet and bear abundantly.
A fine cabinet crafted under Mr James supervision for Dr Grace. Made entirely of solid curly iron with mission style hinges latches and heavy frame. Japanese cabinet maker did the joints and finish praised for patience and workmanship.
In a Honolulu column, the writer jokes about Editor Burne of the Hawaii Herald recovering from malaria. He recalls hearing whiskey and quinine, with a Scotch accent, as the quickest cure.
Rubber Creek Plourish describes Carvalho's two to three vMeren rubber trees near his residence yielding white quality rubber. W. B. Terry trimmed them. about two hundred cuttings sent to Louisson plantation for growth experiments. A tapping yielded four ounces of rubber at a wrong time and manner. Trees are several years old, 15 to 20 feet tall. Dr. Clarke of Honolulu took about 1500 seeds from these trees to Honolulu. some sent to Louison as well. Also notes Rockett-Mre Esther Josephine Cockett born March 5 1854 at Kaonoulu Maui, daughter of Benjamin HH Safin and Kamokanoenoe Nahiualau, educated in Makawao and Honolulu, attended Maunaola Seminary under Porter Green, survived by husband, son, daughter, six brothers. daughter recently married to Hon. J. T. De Bolt.

United States Hawaii Territory Fourth Circuit probate court orders notice of hearing for Alexandrina Jesus de Souza to administer the estate of Jose Dias de Souza. Territorial law requires a Sheriff issued permit to hunt with firearms in Hawaii County. Applies to minors with guardian consent. Violations incur fines from five to one hundred dollars.
The Board of Supervisors of Hawaii County met on the 7th day of January 1906 and after a vote adopted the ordinance. The document notes execution by the county and seals dated June 8, 1906, with official signature and county seal.
By order of the Hawaii County Board of Supervisors bids are invited for ore to be shipped by steam ram roller with alternative estimates for delivery to Hilo Honolulu or Matukona.
