A Cassier's Magazine note describes practical magnetism uses from lifting tiny iron fragments from the eye area to ore separation by magnetized electromagnets in a chute, to tack hammers aiding strawberry basket production. It notes large scale lifting of four to twelve ton iron plates by cranes using rectangular magnets, lifting hot plates without manual handling.

Scots birds shipped to Scotland for Carnegie estate

Four cockatoos from Santa Fe accompanied by ornithologist Rosswell Pierce sail from New York to Scotland aboard the Philadelphia. Bought by Andrew Carnegie for $600, the birds imitate speech and a Scotch burr, with coal black plumage and white tails. Pierce says parents were imported from New Guinea twenty-five years ago. In a separate item, Breathitt county in Kentucky readies twenty-five young preachers led by Rev.
