Land laws hinder homesteaders in Hawaii meet at Fireman's Hall
A Friday night Board of Trade discussion in Hilo focused on aiding homesteaders and small farmers. Speakers urged less rigid land laws, outright land sales, and road infrastructure to access homesteads, citing delays and failed leases. Sheriff Andrews and others stressed the need for roads before settlement, noting ten applicants awaiting action and exits to Mexico by those blocked by restrictions. Organizing a Dramatic Club in Hilo was also floated, amid enthusiasm after a recent Elks performance.
