MacArthur Seeks Impregnable Oahu Fortification Plan

At a Honolulu conference General MacArthur pledged that Honolulu would not be made into an army post and that supplies would be offered at fair rates. He called Oahu the key to the islands and urged following Heuer board plans to fortify Pearl Harbor with shore batteries and mobile field artillery to deter landings, estimating a 3,000 man force including infantry and two artillery batteries, contingent on Congress funding. The Kahauiki site is expected for the post with lease negotiations delaying final action. A second item notes Chaimberlain’s Cough Remedy as a cure for croup and a local ad for Trimann subscriptions.
