Republican Meeting Called for March 30 1904

A meeting of the Republican Club of the 1st Precinct 1st District is called for Wednesday March 30 1904 at 7:30 p.m. at Christian Science Hall Walakes. Delegates will be nominated for the Primary Election on April 9 1904 and other business will be transacted. Rolls for precinct voter registration are open at Waiakea Cigar Stand through April 6 1904.

Ookala and Kulesiat Road Tender Notice 1904

By authority sealed tenders are invited by the Superintendent of Public Works for 13 900 feet of Government road in five sections between Ookala and Kakatow in Hamakua District Hawaii up to 12 meters. Plans and specifications are on file in Hilo and Honolulu offices. Proposals must be endorsed on the envelope as Tenders for Ookala and Kulesiat Road. The superintendent may reject all bids. Honolulu dispatch reports the governor will veto non financial measures at the April 6 special session as Senate backs retrenchment. It also covers Russian Japanese naval actions at Port Arthur and other war news from Paris to St. Louis, with multiple updates on international and domestic financial and political matters.

Port Arthur channel sunk seven merchantmen

Reports from Tokio and St Petersburg dated March 25 describe seven merchant ships sunk in the Port Arthur channel and Japan's growing offensives. The War Office notes Japan plans to land on Chinese territory near the Gulf of Liaotong while Kuropatkin moves to Mukden to divide Russian forces into three armies. Russian withdrawal is planned until a favorable position is found. Viceroy Alexieff demands removal of Chinese officials from Manchuria as tensions rise. Legal bid to halt Panama canal purchase filed in Washington

March 29 report from Washington says Attorney Wilson of Chicago sues the Government to stop the Panama canal purchase. He is believed to act at the urging of the Colombian government. In St Petersburg on March 24 Saroff succeeds General Kuropatkin as Minister of War with Kuropatkin shifting to command land forces in the Far East.
