Hillside residents were urged to attend a bonfire and pep rally at Hillside Avenue Field near the PAL to support the high school football team. Russell Raffa, UNICO Hillside chair, organized the event with students to back a successful season. The rally aims to finish before 9 pm to allow students to return for the school day after.

Boudinot DAR publicized Mayor Bercik’s proclamation of the 176th anniversary of the Constitution by circulating it through Elizabeth schools with Mrs Rutti Heinmeyer coordinating social studies in high schools. Essex Catholic High names merit scholarship semi finalists

Three students at Essex Catholic High School were named semi finalists in the 1963 64 Merit Scholarship Competition. John Boyne of 215 Clark Street and two others from Bloomfield and Harrigan were cited by principal Bro James R Kelly for their outstanding National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test performance among over 16500 high schools.

Sinai Congregation to Hold Yom Kippur Services

Sinai Congregation at 153 Maple Ave will begin Yom Kippur with Kol Nidre at 6 30 p m Friday September 27. Hillside pool referendum rapped as rigged hearing

Republican candidate Joseph Ram condemns Hillside Township meeting on September 17 as a machine political move to approve more than 300000 in bonds for a Central Avenue pool without a public vote. He notes 1500 residents petitioned for a referendum, only one speaker supported the ordinance, calling the hearing a farce and urging voters to remove incumbents.

The National State Bank Hillside hosts the eleventh thrift art contest teaching billboard style thrift messages. Freshmen and sophomores design bright posters judged for clarity with a theme from the National Thrift Committee The top prize is a 25 dollar U S Savings Bond with runners up receiving savings accounts.
