Tenth Awards Night Of Little League Set

Albert Badar announces the tenth annual Hillside Little League awards banquet will be held Saturday evening in Hillside High School cafeteria. Knights of Columbus, Bnai Brith, and Yankees teams, champions of respective leagues, will receive trophies along with outstanding pitchers and batters. Twelve-year-olds aging out will receive graduation certificates. Admission is free for participants with an accompanying adult.

Award Winner of State PBA Robert Dischler

Robert Dischler aged 24 of 4 Looker Street received a civilian gold medal from the New Jersey State PHA at its annual banquet on September 10 at the 500 Club in Atlantic City. The citation praised his role in stopping a holdup at the National State Bank of Elizabeth on December 5. He wrestled a gun from a bandit, shot him in the stomach, and fought the second robber, who fled with $30,000 left behind.

Two Pools Proposed for Hillside School Play Areas

James P. Whitlock proposes using two Hillside school sites Calvin Coolidge and AP Morris for public pools to save the town over 200000. The plan, backed by Home Owners Action Association, would convert unused school play areas into two 100 by 60 foot pools with reinforced walls and shared facilities, managed by recreation department staff with a per day user fee and free sunbathing access for non swimmers.

Stamler Dinner Eye Health Screening Plans Announced

Plans announced for a September 17 dinner honoring State Senator Nelson F. Stamler with United States Senator Jacob Javits as guest speaker at the Elizabeth Carteret Hotel.
