The Board of Education proceeds with a plan to use Livingston Road as a classroom to teach students to drive. Mothers and the public oppose the effort, calling it the so called baby carriage brigade and signaling possible obstruction to the plan.
Plymouth road residents planned to petition the Board of Education to bar Livingston road from a school driving course. They note 14 children live nearby, the street lacks sidewalks and curbs, and could be a hazard if used for auto instruction. A board meeting to discuss bonds and the Livingston road issue was set for this evening.
Citizens urged to sign petitions against low flying airplanes from Newark Airport at The Times office 1443 North Broad Street. Come in any time.
Four Hillside youths ages 14 and 15 admitted joy riding in United Parcel Co. trucks at Evans Terminal. They damaged trucks, a gas pump, and a shed used by Danial Leeds Miller Inc. coal dealers. Police picked them up near Evergreen Cemetery and will send them to Union County Juvenile Court.
One of two Hillside youths arrested early Sunday in a stolen car in Cedar Grove was arraigned Tuesday in Municipal Court Elizabeth on burglary and auto larceny charges. The other, a 16 year old, will appear in Juvenile Court. Henry P. Du France 21 of 259 Tollywood avenue and his younger companion were picked up in Cedar Grove by Patrolman Schneider after the juvenile darted from a used car lot opposite Meadow Brook. They admitted stealing the 1949 Ford from Sunshine Motors Corp 499 Broad Street Elizabeth and breaking into a Union gas station to fuel the joy ride.
