Bridge, pipes and land sale shape Newark town action
Treasurer suspended the absence of a bridge will be a serious hazard. Mayor Monroe Ackerman said negotiations with the railroad are underway for permission to enter its property to replace the bridge while cost responsibility is settled in court. A state directive called removal of two 30 inch pipes from South Creek at Winans Avenue and Fabyan Place, referred to the Township Engineer. The pipes, installed by the City of Newark, are undersized for heavy storms and flood Chancelor Avenue. The committee approved purchasing a Gledhill model II vacuum leaf loader from North Jersey Equipment Co. for 3954 dollars. An offer of 350 dollars for town land behind lots 558 and 559, Block 213, Hollywood Avenue was accepted.
