Dedication of Canty Council 3197 Knights of Columbus Parade

A large crowd gathered Sunday for the dedication of the Rev Thomas F Canty Council 3197 Knights of Columbus building on Liberty avenue. The ceremony featured a parade interrupted for Benediction at Christ the King Church with Rev Daniel Curtin laying the cornerstone and Rev Gerard B Whelan giving the blessing. On the reviewing stand spoke Grand Knight George Luppold Deputy Grand Knight Peter Confalone Sr toastmaster Robert Giovine and other dignitaries including Mayor Louis A Dischler and township committee members Max Schleifer Sidney Birnbaum and Charles Mancuso.

Children Invited To Halloween Parade At Hillside PAL

Ninth Thrift Essay Contest Opens at Hillside High

The Hill Side National Bank sponsors the ninth annual thrift essay contest for Hillside High School students. It starts Wednesday November 1 under the English Department and ends December 15. Theme is Save Regularly you ll be glad you did. First place in each grade wins a 50 savings bond, second 25, third 10. The senior winner advances to the National Thrift Committee contest. The bank has earned an honorable mention in the last three years.

Mitchell Day Predicted As Huge Union County Welcome

James P. Mitchell, Republican governor candidate, to visit Linden Cranford and Union County on October 30 for a 14 hour schedule. Events include plant tours, college talks, a women's luncheon, and a large outdoor rally with fireworks.
