Two youths arrested for drug influence in Hillside area

Police arrested Richard Stanwiek and James Montague at 11:30 p.m. last Thursday in a van on North Broad Street at Mertz Avenue for drug influence. Both, ages 22 and 23, face $1,000 bail after examination by Dr. Joseph Peyser. Arresting officers were Patrolmen Stier and Veachschein as part of ongoing inquiries noted by Police Commissioner Corwick. Dischler Honored At Hillside Elks Dinner

About 200 attended a testimonial dinner for Louis A. Dischler Hillside Township Clerk honored for 25 years as Elks Lodge trustee Judge DiBuono spoke and Mrs Dischler received a bouquet. Car Skids Through Rail on N Broad Street Bridge

James Shirley, 34, of 284 N Day Street Orange drove a car that skidded 189 feet on the N Broad Street bridge, broke a guard rail, and fell down an embankment shortly after 4 am last Thursday. His unnamed passenger, asleep, escaped injury. Patrolman Alois J. Stier filed the police report.

Woman Detours Causes Accident on Local Streets

Detour due to street resurfacing led to a collision on Conant Street. Helen Padovano, 49, of South Orange, reported missing stop sign visibility and struck a Bristol-Myers wagon at 225 Long Avenue. Nicholas Pappas, 44, Colonia, suffered head injuries and will seek medical care.
