Schoen first to file for Hillside board race

Albert Schoen of Schoen Realtors became the town’s first candidate for the February 1971 Hillside Board of Education election filing his petition before the December 31 deadline. Marvin Corwick elected Mayor of Hillside Township for 1971. Police Chief Commends Patrolmen Detectives For 1970 Actions

In November 1970 a 16 year old was struck by a pellet from an air pistol in a car incident near his home. The boy recovered after hospital treatment. Can't Stop Car Strikes Vehicle in Route 22 Crash

Henry P. Wester, 51, of 286 Timberline Road Mountainside, sustained back and right arm injuries after his vehicle stopped on Route 22 westbound at Wewonna Ave. The car driven by Wayne A. Knocked Down Purse Nabbed in Street Theft

Mrs Helen Delegyl, 59, of 1579 Summit Ave, was knocked to the ground about 6 03 p m last Monday and her purse stolen by two teenage thieves. A girl grabbed her from behind as she walked in front of 1593 Summit Ave. The pair, both about 15, fled toward Newark. Mrs Delegyl suffered bruises and was taken to St Elizabeth Hospital by Hillside Ambulance.

Arrest of Alan Denton on narcotics and drug charges

Alan A. Denton, 22, of 266 Conklin Ave, was arrested by Patrolman Vincent J. DeMaio at 10:45 p.m. last Wednesday after erratic driving. He faces charges of being under the influence of a narcotic drug, failure to register as a narcotics user, and possession of legend drugs. He is detained without bail.

Manufacturers warn few students study economics in New Jersey

Ernest E. Robinson of the New Jersey Manufacturers Association told Hillside Industrial Association members that only six-tenths of one percent of 1.4 million K–12 students study economics in the state. He urged more career focus, praised industry education efforts, noted Assembly Bill 1254 funds a Rahway Camden and New Brunswick pilot, and cited association activities including clean water campaigning and member services. The Hillside group will hold a Christmas party on December 10 at College Inn.
