Primary teachers, Board of Education members and elementary principals attended the first session of a Hillside math workshop led by Mr. Harold Carney with Dr. Wayne Branom noting the value of modern methods. The program emphasizes active student exploration, reasoning over memorization, and early use of sets, numeration, and order concepts. Follow ups across schools are planned to expand intermediate grade participation.

Kennon Promoted to Assistant Director at Bristol-Myers
Dr Lloyd Kennon rises to Assistant Director of the Research and Development Laboratories in the Bristol-Myers Product Division. He will direct the Pharmaceutical and Toiletries Departments. Kennon trained in physical and organic chemistry at the University of Wisconsin and previously worked as a research scientist for Smith Kline and French Laboratories before joining Bristol-Myers in 1962.

Sinai Teen Group to Meet at Sinai Hebrew Center

Boy Scouts Plan As Nature Trip to Great Swamp Refuge
Boy Scout Troop 93 sponsored by Temple Shomre Torah Hillside plans a November 24 visit to the Nature Study Center of the Morris County Park Commission, giving access to the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge. The refuge, formed about 15,000 years ago by a retreating glacier, is a key Northeast watershed and migratory bird stopover, staffed with cooperation between the Morris County Park Commission and New Jersey Audubon Society.

Parking Lot Land Suit Is Dismissed
A suit to void the sale of a 30-foot strip of the municipal parking lot on Maple Ave between Bailey and Williamson Aves was dismissed by Superior Court Judge Nelson K Mintz for being filed after the 45 day legal limit. Harry Schulman, who sold a 50-foot parcel in 1957, filed the action Oct 29 1962, the township committee confirmed the sale Aug 7 1962. Schulman had received 4000 dollars. the township sold a portion to Davelen Inc for 6500 dollars.
