HELP Seeks Summer Jobs For Hillside Youths

The Hillside Employment Labor Project known as HELP seeks summer jobs for high school and college students. Mayor Carmen Ferrigno and the Township Clerk invite employers to register needs and students to report availability. Employers and youths will be matched to fit job requirements and final hiring decisions rest with the employer.

Hillside Week Lunch Date and Local Notices

The Hillside community runs through May with a faculty luncheon at Harden Locker School on May 14 in the Harlow H Curtis Jr Room. Fire crews extinguished brush and car fires, and rabies shots were offered May 8 and 9 behind the PAL building. Community events include Earth Day litter pick up on April 22, a rocket derby prize list, and public notices on votes, tickets, and police honors.

Hillside Municipal Pool Opens June 20 1970

The Hillside Municipal Pool will open June 20 with plans to expand the program. Manager Bob Shapiro and Assistant Manager Gene Saks report strong member interest, with a warning from Sanford Goldberg that late applications after May 15 may risk not being processed in time. Membership forms are available at the pool office on the municipal building’s second floor and at many local stores and banks.

Hillside Republican Screening Committee rebuts Witte endorsement claim

Hillside Republican Screening Committee chair John Geraci says Witte supporters misstate the panel’s process after Witte appeared for questioning in 1966 1967 and discussed Past year events including the 1966 district leadership race and the November election. The committee maintains Witte is not the best Hillside Township Committee candidate.

Zoning Ordinance Up At Next Meeting

The township plans a first reading of the new zoning ordinance at the May 19 committee meeting. Officials will redraw zoning to nine or ten types, reclassify N Broad St as commercial offices, and keep Wolf Place area residential as residents request.

Arrests for Narcotics Violations Lead to Two Suspects

Bar bra D. Krul 248 Belleview Terr and Thomas Mills 18 28 Looker St were arrested last Wednesday on narcotics charges. Krul, taken at her home during a Jersey City contempt warrant search, faces failure to register as a narcotics offender. Mills was nabbed at Liberty Ave and Crawn St for the same register offense.

Center To Have Own Commission in Hillside Township

Hillside township votes 4-1 to form a seven member Center Commission to oversee the William H. Buie Community Center with the mayor opposing its autonomy in favor of keeping the project under the Recreation Department. The panel includes the mayor a Hillside Industrial Foundation rep the recreation superintendent and four community members.
