Hillside Democrats nominate Woysaniker and Corvelli for Township Committee

Harold Woysaniker incumbent and former mayor and Peter Corvelli a medical technician are the Democratic standard bearers for Hillside Township Committee. They pledge progressive government, cite building projects and local services, with endorsements from Municipal Chairman Charlotte DeFilippo.

Gould seeks board hearing after reversing firing stance

Gould, Hillside High School principal, reversed his earlier position and asked the Board of Education for reasons behind his firing and for a possible meeting. The board accepted Vice-Principal Harry Ladange’s retirement and posted a vacancy for the principal's job. HEA president Nicky Glassman defended Gould's endorsement as a personal assessment, not an official HEA stance.

Hillside fights sign limits after Superior Court action

The Superior Court of New Jersey orders Hillside to show cause about its sign ordinance and grants a temporary injunction. Mayor Vincent Baldassano predicts the Willingboro ruling may affect Hillside, while Township Committeeman Lou Santagata argues Hillside’s ordinance is different and defensible with support from the Irvington model. Twin brothers named to West Point from Hillside

Peter and Paul DeFluri of Hillside were named to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Both Seton Hall Prep students plan to graduate in 1981 with a B S in engineering and then serve six years in the armed forces. Peter is National Honor Society, Italian Club president, rifle team member. Paul captained rifle, Italian Club member, school magazine artist.

Township panel funds library move amid dispute and truck bid fight

Township Committee clashed over funding for relocating library materials during a new wing build. Harold Woysaniker pressed to take 500 from Public Works, others opposed. After caucus, 4-1 decision redirected funds. A bid dispute over a forestry truck ended with a unanimous Cumming Company award despite objections and threats of legal action. The panel also approved renovation of the Buie Community Center generation system.
