Outlook Bright For Hillside Comet Baseball Team

Hillside High’s 7 17 record last season gives way to optimism this spring as only three players depart. Coach Walt Hennessy leads the Comets with Nick DeLuisi helping, and Steve Serafino and Sal Calaleno handling JV and freshmen duties. Star senior Gary Stukes anchors the lineup with .364 batting last year, while Bob Boehm tops the pitching staff with a 2.00 ERA. The infield features Ricky Saltzman Robert Marguerite and Rocco Biondi. Tony Lanzafaria improves at bat. Outfield candidates include Jim Winnecki Wayne Shapiro Jim Kuhlwein Mauro DeVito. Pete Kowalsky enters as a top freshman reserve. The conference is strong, with Crawford and Westfield likely contenders, but Hillside projects fourth in Watchung and better outside the league, opening at home versus Kearny.
