The Hillside Board of Education dismissed William H. Gilling Sr a long time janitor in Hillside schools since July 15 1941 following a March 10 suspension. The action became effective at midnight after a two hour public hearing on 25 charges. Gilling appeared without attorney or witnesses and left after presenting Mrs Robert C Kirkpatrick on affidavit answering the charges.

Requiem Mass Held For Mrs Mary Duffy
A solemn high mass of requiem was celebrated at St Catherine's Church for Mrs Mary J Duffy widow of Thomas J Duffy of Hillside Avenue. She died at home and was interred at St Gertrude Cemetery Woodbridge. She was born in Ireland and came to the United States about sixty years ago residing in Elizabeth and then here for fifty years. Survivors include three daughters four sons six grandchildren and two great grandchildren with several siblings.
