Mrs. Ford Meyer announces summer checkouts available at Hillside Public Library with returns due by October 2. Trustees vote to close August 2 through September 6, a period repeated from last year. Calvin Coolidge branch closes June 12 and will reopen in fall. From January to May 1948 1949 and 1950 circulation rose to over 4 000 11 000 and 22 000 respectively with 665 loans from the branch in May. The library remains open Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm until summer recess.

Town Opposes Cut In Bus 47 Changes
Irvine B. Johnstone Jr for Hillside objected to Public Service request to the Public Utilities Commission on June 14 to discontinue 18 daily trips on Union Bus Route 47 from Hillside. The plan would reroute six SURAT express buses via Broad Street Newark to Route 25 East Jersey Street Elizabeth, then Broad Street, Hillside, cutting trips but speeding Newark Bound Brook travel. Traffic expert Edward D. Cone said the 18 trips are part of 252 daily Hillside routes and more service will be added if needed. Johnstone said Hillside residents oppose any reduction.
