Facts of School Budget Are Told In Pamphlet
The Board of Education distributes a bulletin titled Your Investment in The Future detailing the budget. It notes 43 percent of town tax goes to the municipality, 14 percent to the county, and 2.7 percent for veterans and seniors. Education cost per pupil is $569, ranking hillside eighth of 13 area communities. The nine percent budget increase funds salary guides, social security, pension costs, library and summer school programs, materials, and equipment. It provides salaries for two elementary librarians, seventh and eighth grade guidance, and summer remedial reading. A fire escape at Abram P Morris School will replace a 42 year old exit, and the high school offices will be enlarged. The tax levy rises to $21.50 per assessed value, and major figures in the $2,845,610 budget list voting places for Feb 14.
