Hillside Adult School opens its Spring term at the High School on Tuesday January 27. Registration at the guidance office January 19 and 20 from 7 to 9 pm. A wide variety of courses offered including contract bridge and learn to drive. For information call 3525 2433.
A string of minor incidents and injuries are logged, including Sharon Wycke 16 injured in Hillside High School gym class, Wilber Hill Jr. 21 hurt when his truck slid on ice into a parked car, and several fire and theft alerts across Hillside and nearby towns.
Detectives Gordon Millburn and Anthony Messado arrested 20 year old Robert Smogowicz at his home on January 6 for possession of marijuana. Authorities traced a pound mailed from Vietnam. a second pound was found in the residence. Value estimated at about 1000 dollars. Bail set at 5000 dollars.
About 6 000 questionnaires will be sent to gauge public sentiment on senior citizen housing. William L Bra chak State Council official outlined steps to seek aid, including site selection and organizational setup. Hillside has 8 000 elderly residents among 24 000. mayor says housing differs from past apartment referendums.
The Hillside Jaycees call Project Search a plan to establish a year round community center at the PAL Building. The program targets four age groups from preschool to seniors, includes a nursery school, designated grammar and high school activities, and teen supervised recreation with staff and volunteers. The proposal outlines a 33 463.15 dollar annual budget and seeks Township Committee approval.
Friends of Arnold Witte announce a testimonial February 20 at the College Inn honoring his service to Hillside. Witte, a lifelong resident and local official, holds posts in Republican and civic groups and has five children with Carol Ann McTermain.
Richard Vespucci a 17 year old Hillside High senior named Lions Youth of the Month. He is editor in chief of Hillex student newspaper and active in SGA yearbook intramurals and sports. He plans Seton Hall University for a Communication major and has an older brother in Vietnam.
Orientation for eighth graders entering Hillside High School in September 1970 moves from January 19 to January 26 at 8 p.m. at the high school.
John C. Pozar announces Monday evening hours in January 1926 and February 2 for tax payments from 7 to 8 p m. The notice directs taxpayers to visit the tax office during the extended times.
Barry A Zins announced his withdrawal from the Hillside Board of Education contest in a letter to Martin Lynch, citing ineligibility due to residing outside the district. The move ends his candidacy for the Board of Education.
