Five Newark Men Face Grand Jury In Liquor Theft
Five Newark men Otis Moore 24 William R Jones 27 Isaac Bowen 43 Garland Hester Jr 24 and William Patterson 33 were held for the Grand Jury on charges of stealing liquor valued over 700 dollars from Austin Nichols & Co Inc wholesale distributors at 1430 Chestnut Avenue. They waived a hearing. Patterson and Hester were temporary holiday helpers. They allegedly entered the loading platform, broke a padlock on a truck, and transferred liquor to a car.

Smoke Poison Fatal Fire Victim in Apartment Inferno
Pauline Mustalish 68 died from smoke poisoning after being overcome by dense smoke from a burning mattress in her third floor apartment at 1413 Boa Place. Firefighters and police aided her rescue but she succumbed seven hours later at Elizabeth General Hospital. The fire’s cause remains undetermined.
