The 1952 budget hearing is slated for Tuesday March 4 at 8 15 pm in the Municipal Building North Broad Street. The total budget is 2 143 861 11 with detailed items Local purposes 18 911 35 Local district schools 48 564 31 Local district schools estimate 068 586 45 and general county estimate 422 800.
Guests at Dr. and Mrs. William F. Wacker’s home on North Avenue held a Washington’s Birthday party featuring axes to chop a pretend cherry tree. The tree was a gag with maraschino cherries on the branches. A buffet supper and Dr Cramp's Medical Bar drinks were served. Marilyn Singe performed solo dances and Hilda Fichtner played accordion for singing and dancing. Decorations followed a colonial theme.

A five member Recreation Commission will centralize public recreation administration under state law. The board includes appointees from the original Recreation Board and others chosen by the Board of Education. The panel may acquire lands, supervise personnel, and work with other agencies. Utilities remain with the Board of Education until 1983. Community centers will use Den Looker Hillside and Coe Avenue schools daily after 3:15 p.m. and Saturdays mornings.

Gov Alfred Driscoll spoke at a press conference on plans for a 15 million dollar bond issue for teachers colleges. He favored Montclair State Teachers College and discussed a Hillside site after a suggestion by the State Chamber of Commerce for a location near Elizabeth.
Mayor Robert C. Kirkpatrick, 14 years as Union Printers League of New Jersey president, was honored at the league’s quarterly conference at the Essex Lounge in Newark. Local 357 of Dunellen and Newark Local 10 Union International Typographical Union hosted and presented gifts to Kirkpatrick and Mrs Kirkpatrick, recently elected president of the Board of Education.
Divisional chairmen for the Hillside Heart Fund were named this week by Abraham Mankowitz. Included are Sol Rettino Harvey Peace John C Pozar Dr Wayne T Branom Dr Henry J Kunzelmann Irwin Gillet Rabbi Eliezer Cohen and Robert Kaplan. Plastic hearts are in local stores the Mayfair Theatre and Hillside National Bank. Branom aims to match last year's school coverage and a 10 cent per student response. Mankowitz urged industry and residents to contribute to reach the 2500 goal.
The High School PTA executive board discussed how board members often run for township committees, hurting school duties. They may urge resignations when pursuing other offices, a move reflected by Hillside and current candidates Raymond King Henry Goldher and Arnold McClow. Forecast notes mostly fair today, with changes tonight and tomorrow.
The township plans to liquidate tax lien certificates via in rem foreclosures with an auction of township property. 75 liens may foreclose at about 90 dollars per lien, saving 100 dollars per lien versus conventional foreclosures, while 25 liens require conventional foreclosure and may not proceed in 1952 due to budget limits.
