Woman Dies After Attic Fire Attic blaze traps Newark woman
Mrs. Bertha Dudzinski 71 of 1264 Miriam Place died at Newark Beth Israel Hospital from severe burns sustained when fire broke out in the attic of her home on Monday. Firefighters entered through smoke and flames, found her under a blazing blanket, and transported her to the hospital. The cause is undetermined though boxes of clothes and household items are blamed. Her son Walter 32 and neighbor Fred Linkin aided before firefighters arrived. Board of Education election items follow as Arnold McClow begins a third term with Mildred Raphael as vp and other officers retiring.

Pingry School dedicates new building with Kreh honored
The Pingry School held a Saturday ceremony dedicating its new $1,600 structure on North Avenue. Henry Kreh Jr., Hillside’s township engineer and board officer, received the ceremonial key from Conover English, with a silver tray gift to commemorate the occasion. About 1,400 attendees heard remarks from Fleet Admiral William F. Halsey, Dr. Harold Willis Dodds, Dr. John F. Grummere, Edward A. Weeks Jr., and Dean Mathey, praising Kreh and the school’s advancement while noting ongoing debates over educational priorities. Three generations of the Gibby family attended as part of the platform guests.
