Board President Michael R. Flannery says no 23 point tax hike will be proposed despite state aid cuts. The district aims to trim about $160,000, potentially eliminating summer programs and some positions while avoiding layoffs.
Town officials and over 150 seniors attended a meeting at the Community Center to launch a new senior citizen program. The program, paid with federal funds and not impacting property taxes, will run weekdays 9 am to 3 pm at 274 Hillside Ave starting Monday. Coordinator Daniel Palladino, $9 000 salary, will oversee activities funded under the CET program with potential additional federal support. Seniors must register to participate and sign up sheets will be available at the center.

The 90 day jail sentence for Fred Wenzler, owner of the Blue Ribbon Inn, was suspended after a ruling by former Municipal Court Judge Allan Tumarkin. Judge Leonard Wood also reduced a $1,000 fine to $250. Wenzler and his mother Pauline, co-owners, had pleaded guilty to two summonses tied to the Hollywood Ave. bar and are facing March 8 Municipal Court hearings on related assault complaints.
New ballot positions have been drawn for the March 9 Board of Education election. The slate lists Catherine Pease, Jerry Kaplan, Edward J. Capasso, Anthony Panarese, James Clark, Julie Moffat, P. Joseph Cocuzza, and Sandy Tasch. Tasch’s late entry forced the prior spots to be discarded. Pease declined comment on withdrawal rumors.
