Air Force Captain Gallof completes aerospace course

Air Force Captain Sanford Gallof son of Mr and Mrs Sam Gallof of 1588 Maple Ave has graduated from the Air University's Squadron Officer School at Maxwell AFB Alabama. He was selected for the 14 week professional officer course recognizing his leadership potential. He will be reassigned to the Air Force Satellite Control Facility at Sunnyvale California as an astronautical engineer. He is a 1962 graduate of Weequahic High School Newark and earned a BS from NYU in 1966 and an MS in 1968 from the Air Force Institute of Technology Wright Patterson AFB Ohio.

Hillside GOP Club to host Richard Scheel speaker

The Hillside Republican Club announces that Richard G. Scheel, County GOP Chairman for two years, will speak at the January 8 meeting, with organizers Jack Murphy and John Kulish highlighted for their efforts. This will be Scheel’s second appearance, and members are urged to attend.

Hillside Kiwanis Help Buy Clothes for 16 Kids at Discount Store

Hillside Kiwanis Club members and welfare director Mrs. Jean Goldhor accompanied 16 indigent children to an Elizabeth discount store Monday night to purchase clothing for Christmas. Police logged vehicle damage reports, false fire alarm at Harden Locker School, broken car windshields, foot injury at Firestone, and multiple burglaries with items stolen from autos and a house, including a tape player, tapes, fire extinguisher, and jewelry.

Four Injured In Chestnut and Hillside Collision

Four people were injured in a two car crash on Chestnut Ave at Hillside Ave at 12 12 a.m. last Wednesday. Nicholas Martis 38 of Newark drove a car with three passengers Virginia Jones 17 and Dolores Gray 18 both Newark were hurt, and Dean Marshall 17 Union suffered jaw and head injuries. George Steckert 38 Maplewood drove the opposite car and had chest pains. Marshall and Steckert were taken to St Elizabeth Hospital and Overlook Hospital respectively for x rays. Martis received four summons for driving with only a permit and no licensed driver in the car.

Mothers March to Benefit March of Dimes

The Mothers March will be held on the last Sunday of January from 2 to 4 PM in Hillside. Contributions support Polio vaccine research and other crippling disease work with 82 cents to research and services per dollar, 18 cents to fundraising and administration. Checks go to Hillside March of Dimes. chair Terri Klebosis with Carmen Ferrigno and Alexander Menza as honorary members. Proceeds are later delivered to College Inn, with refreshments served.

Essex Unit to Hold January Meeting on Retarded Children

The Essex Unit of the New Jersey Association for Retarded Children will meet Thursday evening January 8 1970 at 8330 p.m. at Glen Ridge Congregational Church Glen Ridge NJ. The program centers on Educable Retarded Child with a teacher panel from George Morris School Bloomfield and parents of trainees, plus invited educators and parents. Conversation will include audience participation and a social hour after.

Sixteen congregations forming New Jersey Circuit No 5 will meet for a three day Bible assembly at Thomas Jefferson High School Elizabeth New Jersey from January 16 to 18 1970. The event is sponsored by Watchtower Bible Society with Ralph R Hoppe presiding. Featured speaker is Christian H Weining circuit and district supervisor for Watchtower, overseeing congregations in Connecticut New York New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Four men file for Board of Education race in Hillside

With the January 2 filing deadline approaching four candidates have entered the Hillside Board of Education race. Incumbents Moe Bierman Alfred Lordi and Al Atterman seek re election alongside newcomer Jerome Eben. No female candidate appears. Budget talks ongoing with Hillside Teachers Association led by Rudy Weiss and noting schedule hearings from January 19 to February 4.

Santa Visits Yale Party at College Inn

Santa Visits Yale Party held its first annual Children's Christmas Party on December 20 at the College Inn. More than 60 youngsters attended as refreshments were served and Santa Claus delighted the children with toys and a heart full of love. The club thanks Art Ferguson for his devotion and his portrayal of Santa Claus for Hillside children.
