Major General Henry G. Nulton of Hillside, commander of the 78th Division (Training) US Army Reserve, will retire December 31 after nearly 45 years. A retirement dinner at the Military Park Hotel in Newark December 1 drew 850 guests. Prominent attendees included Lieutenant General Edward J. O'Neill and Governor Meyner sent messages.

The Reserve Police Christmas party was held at Hungarian Hall on White Street at 11 am on Saturday December 24 for children of the Regular and Reserve forces. Police Chief Ernest A. Voelk and Police Captain Frank Erdman joined in the festive program with Santa Claus. Erdman served as MC while Voelk helped distribute gifts. ladies auxiliary provided ice cream, soda, and cookies.

Arthur L. Riche Jr. Former Hillside Roads Supervisor Dies
Arthur L. Riche Jr. 57, longtime Hillside roads and sewers supervisor, died Friday in Alexian Brothers Hospital Elizabeth after a prolonged heat illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Walter R. Lee Funeral Home. He joined the Road Department in 1934, became foreman, and served as supervisor for the past decade. Born in Newark, he lived most of his life in Hillside. Survived by wife Mildred Toto Riche, mother Mrs. Alice Riche, five brothers Eugene Linden Edward Elin Leroy and Raymond, and three sisters May Wrust Alice Donahue and Frances Stitchter. He was a Hillside Elks member.

Thrift Poster Awards For High School Winners
