The Hillside Times notes the December issue commentary on the new parking ordinance aimed at street cleaning. About five hundred tickets at five dollars each have been issued by police to cars parked illegally. Residents blame police, but the column argues the force must enforce the law, urging compliance or legal change.
The Hillside Board of Education lays out a $2,610,551.38 tentative 1966 67 budget with a $300 to $500 salary range raise for teachers. Incumbents Peter G Hurmanik and Mildred Hess announce re election bids and outline extensive community service roles. The public vote on Feb 8 will fund current expenses of $2,112,834.50 and capital outlay of $6,500 with $50,000 fire detection funding planned within economy measures.
A near miss on Route 22 near Harding Terrace in Hillside during rush hour left traffic halted for about 30 minutes. Salvatore Trenacoste of Middletown recalled, I never knew what lit me, after a two ton maggot automobile was hurled from the east bound barrier into the opposite lane. Hillside police responded promptly as officials called for highway system remedies and state action.
In response to last week's column about Mayor Designate Monroe Ackerman's mustache, the letter notes his official photo will appear in the January 7 Hillside Times. Ackerman takes office January 1 with the pictured portrait to follow.
Police notes show Theresa Romano reported grease on her windshield at 1467 Compton Terrace. Bicelle Ira Katz reported a side window break on a car at the same address. Esther Sweeney reported a coat worth 60 dollars stolen from a rack at Center Bowl 1319 North Broad Street. Irene Magdon reported a stolen Christmas lights string valued at 5 dollars from Baltimore Avenue residence.
Local churches in Hillside and nearby communities announce Christmas season services beginning Sunday December 19. Calvary Lutheran Elizabeth Avenue Presbyterian Franklin Memorial Methodist Hillside United First Baptist Episcopal Church of St Mary Magdalene hold morning worships, Christmas Eve candlelight and carol services, and related programs with sermons by named pastors and church school activities.
Superior Court Judge Milton A. Feller ruled that Benjamin Santucci Jr. cannot collect damages for injuries from a May 3, 1962 Little League game. The motion granted summary judgment for the Little League and league president Arthur Kresz, while not ruling on claims against the Hillside Board of Red Seale Commissioners and recreation secretary Peter G. Humanik. The judge held the boy benefited from a non profit educational group, and that Kresz did not incur personal liability due to his official status.

The Hillside Lions Club�s 14th annual charter dinner dance at the Bow and Arrow in West Orange raised over $2,000. Proceeds will underwrite a dry shelter and permanent storage at Hillside High School PTA fieldhouse, aiding refreshment service at football games. A Union County Superior Court hearing tomorrow will decide ownership of 3,022 disputed by Hillside Board of Education and Mrs. Elfrieda Ostermiller, wife of former treasurer William Ostermiller who was jailed for embezzling 55,000 municipal funds.
David W. Mills of 84 Williamson Ave and Carol A. Strauss of 552 Gonant St have been elected representatives from the Classes of 1969 and 1968 to the Rutgers College of Arts and Sciences Newark Student Council. They will take office in January 1966. Mills majors in history and is a Hillside High graduate. Strauss, Weequahic High School alumna, is majoring in liberal arts on the Newark campus.
