Bergman Nash Motors Opens With First Nash Sold

Allan Bergman owner of Bergman Nash Motors at 1444 North Broad Street is pictured delivering the first Nash to the Steinman family of 281 Dover Avenue. Moe Steinman receives the keys from Bergman as Ed ward Christie and Mrs. Steinman look on during the grand opening drawing more than 700 attendees. The event featured cocktails and hors d oeuvres and Bergman called the response terrific.

Free Toys and Candy at Italian American Christmas Party

School Board Awards Parking Area Work At George Washington School

The Board of Education awarded two contracts for paving the George Washington School parking area amid mild weather. Joseph Policastro won the asphalt top contract for 985 dollars and Arthur Gerber of Union received the curbing contract for 380 dollars.

Mankowitz Named Heart Fund Campaign Chairman in Newark

Abraham Mankowitz of 134 Clark Street was named chairman of the Heart Fund’s February drive for a $44,000 campaign by the Union County Heart Association. He has led prior drives and holds leadership roles in Lions, B’nai B’rith, and Jewish appeals. The appeal funds heart research, education, and hospital clinics in Union County.

Elizabeth Man Is Held For Forgery

Henry DuFrame of 448 Spring Avenue Elizabeth was held for Grand Jury action on December 15 on forgery and obtaining money under false pretenses. Detectives say he attempted to pass a $100.28 check made out to his landlady Joan Diana, endorsed by DuFrame, delivered to his apartment by mistake.

Speeding driver crashes into tree in Kingston collision

Michael S. Romanchick, 46, of 343 Chestnut street Kingston Pa, ran his car into a tree at Long avenue and Pennsylvania avenue Friday at 2 36 am. He told police he glanced at a speedometer to check his speed then hit the tree before he could stop. He was treated for nose injuries by Dr Milton M Lilien. The car was towed to a garage. Sgt Oscar Bishop and Patrolmen John Candrillo and Vincent Moynihan responded.

Night Driving Tests Proposed by Union County Safety Council

The Union County Safety Council proposed a state bill requiring psychophysical and night road driving tests for all driver license applicants. A committee including William Kirner and Harry D. Fletcher will draft recommendations, with suggested standards for vision and extended probation before testing.
