Kiwanis Helps Underprivileged Children Via Seal Sale Basket

Hillside Kiwanis Club aided by High School Key Club members raised about 800 from Kiwanis seal sales for crippled and underprivileged children. Joseph Gally presented the funds to Henry H. Nussbaum at the Hitchins Post Union. Top sellers earned prizes a portable TV and radios. Proceeds fund filmstrip projectors for hospitals and wards for bedridden and wheelchair patients.

Final Rites For Patrolman Victor Heller Sr. In Newark

Funeral services were held at Home, Newark, for Patrolman Victor Heller Sr. who died November 27 after a heart attack. He was 58, a WWI veteran and long time Hillside resident. Survived by wife Trai Strelling Heller, two sons Ray and Victor Heller Jr. and a brother Hein of Newark. Burial at Gate of Heaven in Hanover followed a Solemn Requiem Mass. He served as Fifth District Commander of the State Department of Veterans of Free Wars and held multiple posts in union and veterans groups. He joined the police in 1938 and would have retired next month. Services were conducted by Murden-Lookey Post 80 and Post 1722 Y.P.W. Local 70, PB.A. Also noted are his work with Elizabeth posts and Hillside fire department connections. The obituary notes his roots in Newark and St. Peter’s School. January 1982 is mentioned in context.

A candlelight fly-up ceremony at Morris School honored twelve former Brownies who received Girl Scout pins and Wings. Hillside Hungary relief drive planned for weekend

A Hillside committee set final plans for a clothing and money drive this Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers will canvas businesses and churches with canisters, and a school committee will oversee student volunteers. Drives run 9 am to 4 pm with two municipal trucks and extra volunteer support.

Bnai Brith Women Holiday Gift Sale at Sinai Church

Hillside Chapter of Bnai Brith Women announces a holiday gift merchandise sale to be held Wednesday December 12 at Sinai Congregation 1581 Maple Avenue. Refreshments will be served. The group will also meet December 11 at 1 p.m. to prepare bandages for cancer patients and asks members to bring old ironed sheets and pillow cases.

Sisterhood Donor Dinner Held at Clinton Manor Newark

The Sinal Sisterhood held its annual donor dinner Monday evening at Clinton Manor Newark. Mrs. Mathew Brams chaired the event with Mrs. Rose Finkel as program chairman. A skit titled Cinderella Goes to Donor was performed by members and directed by Mrs. Phil Levin and Mrs. Blie ver Cohen. The chaplain led the invocation and the menorah lighting marked the Chanukah celebration.

Fred Orloff Dies Former Elks Ruler

Fred W. Orloff former exalted ruler of Hillside Lodge 1591 BPO Elks died November 27 at his home in Elizabeth age 71.
